Many years ago, I spent a couple of months in Nepal, trekking and visiting various places of interest.
Trekking was easy then; we could have hired guides and porters, but it wasn't necessary - we just took our rucksacks, stayed in tea houses and used local maps.
It would have been more difficult if we'd been travelling to very remote areas, but we were sticking to the main trails of Pokhara to Poon Hill, and beyond via Jomson to the village of Muktinath at the base of the Thorong La pass, which is the high point on the round Annapurna trek, and there was no shortage of food or accomodation en route.
The pictures don't do it justice. These mountains are spectacular... and walking among them was very special. So too the towns; Kathmandu, with its temples, monuments and markets was another world.
